GFC Hair Treatment in Dehradun

GFC (growth factor concentrate) is an injectable, blood-derived treatment sometimes considered for suitable patients with pattern hair loss. It may be used as an adjunct to evidence-based hair-loss care, not as a guaranteed cure or replacement for diagnosis.

What is GFC therapy?

A specialised processing system is used to prepare a platelet-derived concentrate containing growth factors from a small blood sample. After the scalp is examined and a treatment plan agreed, this preparation may be injected into selected thinning areas. Processing protocols and concentrations vary by kit; the word GFC alone does not guarantee a particular composition or outcome.

Is it a hair transplant?

No. GFC involves scalp injections; it does not transplant follicles or create new follicles in a bald or scarred area.

Who performs assessment?

The dermatologist first identifies the cause and pattern of hair loss; scalp examination and trichoscopy may help assess miniaturisation.

Who may be considered for GFC?

It is most often discussed for selected patients with early-to-moderate androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss) who still have viable follicles. It may be considered alongside medical treatment when benefits, limitations, discomfort and expense are understood.

Potentially suitable

Selected male or female pattern hair loss with thinning rather than long-standing shiny baldness.

Usually not first-line

Sudden diffuse shedding, iron/thyroid-related shedding, patchy alopecia areata or scarring alopecia require a diagnosis-specific plan rather than reflexive injections.

A careful discussion is needed

Pregnancy, active scalp infection, bleeding disorders, significant platelet problems, anticoagulant use and other medical issues must be reviewed individually.

GFC versus PRP: what is different?

Both treatments use material derived from the patient’s own blood. PRP is a plasma preparation enriched with platelets; GFC aims to deliver a prepared concentrate of released growth factors. Device designs, processing, biological composition and dosing are not uniform across clinics or studies.

PRP

Has a larger body of randomised studies for androgenetic alopecia, though studies differ substantially in preparation and outcomes.

GFC

Emerging evidence includes small prospective reports and a retrospective comparison of 42 patients. Some early measurements favoured GFC, but longer-term findings were mixed.

Bottom line

There is currently no solid basis to promise that GFC is consistently superior, longer lasting or painless compared with PRP.

What happens at your consultation and treatment?

After history, scalp examination and discussion of suitable treatment options, a blood sample is collected if GFC is chosen. The preparation is processed using the chosen system and administered to selected scalp areas with appropriate aseptic precautions. Exact session count and spacing are individualised.

Before

Discuss medical history, medicines, hair-loss diagnosis, realistic objectives and cost. Certain patients need investigations.

During

Blood draw, device-based processing and multiple small scalp injections; brief discomfort can occur.

After

Temporary soreness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding or redness can occur. Follow your treating clinician’s specific washing and activity instructions.

When are results assessed?

Hair changes take time because follicles cycle over months. Baseline and follow-up scalp photographs or trichoscopy can be more useful than judging results after a few days. Response varies; some patients see little improvement and maintenance medical therapy may still be needed.

Will it regrow a completely bald scalp?

Usually not. Advanced follicular loss limits what injection-based treatments can achieve.

Will I need more than one session?

Many published protocols use repeated sessions, but there is no single proven universal schedule. Your individual plan should be discussed before starting.

Is treatment lifelong?

Pattern hair loss is usually progressive without ongoing management; an initial injection course should not be portrayed as a permanent cure.

GFC cost in Dehradun: what determines it?

The final procedure cost depends on the preparation system, sessions, area treated and clinical plan. We do not publish an unverified flat rate for injections. The clinic consultation fee is ₹800; treatment charges, if indicated, are discussed separately before proceeding.

Does GFC replace minoxidil or other medicines?

Generally not. For pattern hair loss, evidence-based medical management remains important and may be combined with procedures when appropriate.

Are there risks?

Pain, bruising, bleeding, infection and lack of response are possible. A blood-derived product is not automatically risk-free.

Frequently asked questions

Is GFC better than PRP for hair fall?

Not proven overall. A small comparative study suggests some early advantages for GFC, but the evidence is too limited to establish consistent superiority.

Can women undergo GFC?

Some women with confirmed female pattern hair loss may be considered after evaluation; pregnancy-related or other shedding needs separate assessment.

Is GFC suitable for alopecia areata?

It is not a standard substitute for established alopecia areata treatments. Accurate diagnosis matters.

How much does GFC cost at your clinic?

Consultation is ₹800; the proposed procedure and its price are discussed after examining the scalp.

Does GFC involve downtime?

Small scalp injections can cause short-lived tenderness or pinpoint bleeding, but individual recovery varies.
